In 2026, the first foldable iPhone model is expected to be released. Obviously, Apple is responsible for the development of the gadget and plans to become a leader in this market segment.

Insiders have repeatedly shared details of this smartphone and its main features are already known.

Here's What We Know

In his material in Bloomberg, authoritative insider and journalist Mark Gurman emphasised that the folding iPhone will have two advantages over its competitors. According to him, Apple is making great efforts to make the fold between the displays almost invisible, which will ensure the convenience of using the smartphone. The second advantage will be a durable hinge, which Chinese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported will be made of liquid metal.

Other brands do not yet use liquid metal for the production of their gadgets and in many ways the success or failure of Apple's idea will affect the development of this direction.

Recall, liquid metal is produced by injection moulding, it has a high tensile strength and recovery factor, as well as increased wear resistance characteristics, making it ideal for use in the hinges of foldable smartphones.

The foldable iPhone is expected to cost buyers $2100-2300, making it one of the most expensive representatives of its class. As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 costs $1900 and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold costs $1800, while the price of the flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max (but it's not foldable) starts at $1199.

Flashback

According to Mina-Chi Kuo's previous insights, the foldable gadget's internal screen diagonal will be 7.8″ without folds, while the external screen will be 5.5″. When folded, the device will be 9 to 9.5mm thick, while when unfolded it will be 4.5mm to 4.8mm thick.

The foldable iPhone will get a titanium alloy body, dual rear camera and single front camera.

Apple plans to launch mass production of the foldable iPhone in the fourth quarter of 2026.
