China's alternative to Windows: Huawei unveils PC version of HarmonyOS
Huawei held a presentation of the PC version of HarmonyOS, which will replace Windows on all future computers of the Chinese manufacturer.
Here's What We Know
HarmonyOS does not use Windows or Linux, and uses a proprietary kernel as its foundation.
The new OS already has compatibility with more than 2,000 third-party applications, and 150 programmes have been developed specifically for it.
Chinese engineers have already "befriended" HarmonyOS with most peripherals, not only with basic devices like keyboards and monitors, but also with scanners, graphics tablets, printers and other necessary gadgets.
HarmonyOS architecture in combination with Huawei's own graphics engine guarantees excellent performance and smooth window switching, even for resource-intensive tasks.
An inbuilt voice assistant Celia AI is available on the platform.
The system security is ensured by StarShield Security architecture, which allows to find lost devices with metre accuracy and remotely wipe data, even from a switched off computer.
The first computer with the new operating system will be unveiled on 19 May, but it will only be available in China. Huawei has not yet announced its plans to bring computers with HarmonyOS to the global market.
