Bloomberg: Apple working on M6, M7 chips, new processors for AI servers
Apple is working on new chips for powerful Macs and servers for artificial intelligence, Bloomberg reports. The company's chip development team is actively working on processors for future Mac models, as well as for Apple Intelligence services.
Here's What We Know
The chips codenamed "Komodo" are likely to be the new M6, which will succeed the M5 chips this year, and the chips codenamed "Borneo" will be the future M7. In addition, a "Sotra" chip is being developed for even more powerful Macs, which will debut in the future.
Apple also creates chips specifically designed for artificial intelligence servers. These will be the company's first processors designed specifically for this purpose, and they will process Apple Intelligence requests on the company's servers, performing a similar function to the high-performance Mac chips currently used for servers.
The server chips are being developed as part of the Baltra project and should be ready by 2027. The chips are expected to have twice, four times, and eight times the CPU and GPU capacity of the current M3 Ultra.
In addition, Apple is developing specialised chips for future smart glasses that will compete with Meta Ray-Bans, as well as for AirPods and Apple Watch with cameras. These products could be released as early as 2027.
