Sandfall Interactive has announced that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over 2 million copies. After that, Larian Studios' Director of Publications Michael Douse congratulated the developers on Twitter and expressed the opinion that the game, with proper support through word of mouth, has every chance of realising its potential. He noted that he personally supports the developers and considers their achievement impressive. According to Daus, the project may well reach at least 6 million copies sold, and possibly even 8-10 million.

Here's What We Know

According to Alinea Analytics on GameIndustry.biz, Steam alone accounted for more than 765 thousand copies sold in the first week. For comparison, this exceeds the results of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Despite fears that the release of TES IV: Oblivion Remastered could affect the commercial success of Expedition 33, Kepler Interactive's Senior Portfolio Manager Matt Handrahan explained in an interview that, on the contrary, it has increased interest in the RPG genre. In his opinion, it was the wave of general interest in role-playing games at that time that contributed to the wider discussion and recognition of the Sandfall project. He also believed that players who preferred the style of Oblivion Remastered would not necessarily be interested in the turn-based combat system of Expedition 33, as they were two different audiences.

Hendragan emphasised that the developers were aware of their project's unique identity and had confidence in it due to their own pace and support, including pricing and availability on Game Pass. He noted that everything went as well as they could have expected.

Where To Play

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can be played on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series. The game is also available in the Game Pass catalogue.
