Range of 650 kilometres: MAN is developing the first all-electric touring bus
MAN Truck Bus has announced its first all-electric touring bus, the Lion's Coach E. The novelty was shown on design sketches, as well as in the form of a camouflaged prototype on tests.
Here's What We Know
MAN Lion's Coach E is built on the proven eTruck electric platform and is equipped with NMC battery modules manufactured at the factory in Nuremberg, Germany. Battery capacities range from 356 to 534 kWh and the bus has a claimed range of up to 650 kilometres.
The manufacturer claims that in terms of aerodynamic resistance Cd = 0.31 the new Lion's Coach E is comparable to compact SUVs. At the same time, the coach can accommodate up to 61 passengers and has a luggage compartment with a volume of 11-13 cubic metres, depending on the modification.
Support for a CCS charging system with a capacity of up to 375 kW allows charging within the driver's regulated breaks. Initially, the new electric bus will be focused on corporate transport and urban excursions over short and medium distances. In the future, the integration of a megawatt MCS charging system (up to 750 kW) is envisaged, which will open the way to full long-distance routes.
The first model is a 13.9-metre three-axle bus with a maximum permissible weight of 27.3 tonnes. Over time, the range will be expanded with new versions.
The official premiere will take place at Busworld Europe in Brussels in October 2025. Series production of the MAN Lion's Coach E will start in 2026 at the plant in Ankara, Turkey.
