Hideo Kojima surprises us again: he has an idea for a game where the hero forgets everything if the player pauses
The legendary game designer Hideo Kojima proves once again that his imagination has no limits. In the latest episode of his KOJI10 radio show, the author of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding shared several crazy concepts for future games. The most striking of them is the "game of forgetting", in which the character loses skills and knowledge if the player postpones the passage for a long time.
Here's What We Know
Kojima explains that in such a game, if you take a break for a few days, the character will start to forget how to use weapons or even what kind of work they do. The longer you don't play the game, the more skills and details will disappear from the character's memory. According to Kojima, to play through such a game without losing, players would have to take a week's holiday or vacation - otherwise, you risk returning to a character who doesn't even remember how to move.
This idea is not entirely alien to Kojima's fans: in Metal Gear Solid 3, he had already experimented with time in the real world - for example, The End boss could die of old age if you didn't play for a week, and food would spoil if you didn't return to the game for several days. But the "game of forgetting" takes this approach to a new level by making real-life pauses in the game part of the gameplay challenge.
Other ideas shared by Kojima include a life simulator where the player starts as a child and gradually ages, losing physical fitness and visual acuity as they age. He even jokes that it is unlikely that anyone would want to buy such a game, as only the most loyal fans will reach old age in the virtual world.
And although most of these concepts remain at the fantasy stage, they always fuel interest in the game designer's future projects.
