More power: GMC Hummer EV has become one of the fastest accelerating production cars ever

GMC has updated the huge Hummer electric vehicle. The changes in the 2026 model are not immediately noticeable, except for the new Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte body colours. But the sound of slipping tyres will give away the novelty with a head: now Hummer EV is able to accelerate from a place to 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds.

Here's What We Know

Power output for the 2026 model year Hummer EV 3X Pickup has reached 1,160 hp, an increase of 160 hp over the previous model year. The horsepower gain is available exclusively for the pickup. It was achieved thanks to:

  • a new battery with 24 modules,
  • software optimisation,
  • reconfiguration of the powertrain.

The result is that the pickup now accelerates from a standstill about as fast as a Porsche 911 GT3 and Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

In addition, a new Carbon Fiber Edition is scheduled for 2026 for both pickup and SUV versions. It features:

  • special black wheels with off-road rubber,
  • carbon fibre inserts on the mirror housings and cover plate,
  • black badges,
  • black coloured spare wheel (on the SUV).

The cars in this series will be painted in Magnus Gray Matte colour and the production run is limited. GMC has not yet disclosed the exact number of units.

Also updated is GMC's signature CrabWalk mode: a new version called King Crab allows the rear-wheel steering system to work much faster, improving off-road manoeuvrability. The mode functions separately from the standard CrabWalk, and will be available from the factory on all 2026 models. In addition, earlier 2022-2025 versions will also get it via an over-the-air (OTA) software update that will be released later this year.

GMC has also retuned the Hummer EV's suspension to improve ride smoothness. Two-way charging is now available, which can be used to power other electric vehicles or even your home (if you have the right equipment). The interior is unchanged, with the same 13.4-inch centre screen and a wide range of technologies, including Google Built-In integration.

Pricing will be announced later, closer to the start of sales of the 2026 model year Hummer EV.
