The new Pirelli P Zero Trofeo Track tyres are designed in the USA and for the USA only
The Pirelli factory in Roma, Georgia will soon start producing a new tyre model of the P Zero range called Trofeo Track. This model is designed with the American market in mind and exclusively for it.
Here's What We Know
Pirelli has been producing tyres for high-performance cars for decades: the P Zero range dates back to the mid-1980s and the Lancia Delta S4 rally cars. And since 2002, the company has been producing tyres in the USA as well.
The reason for the regional orientation of the P Zero Trofeo Track tyres is the niche but steady demand from American club racers. Participation in competitions run by organisations like the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) often requires the use of tyres with DOT certification - formally suitable for public roads in the US. While some P Zero models are subject to these requirements, they are more geared towards road use.
The new P Zero Trofeo Track is designed specifically for racing classes, where DOT-certified but maximally "sticky" tyres are allowed. In fact, they are track slicks with minimal groove pattern - exactly as much as necessary to pass certification. Formally, they are still road legal, but Pirelli explicitly states: it is not recommended to use them on the street. The tread in this case is not intended to drain water, but only to comply with regulations.
Exact dates for the Trofeo Track's arrival on sale have not yet been named, Pirelli only promises a launch "in the near future". The tyres will be available for wheel diameters between 17 and 21 inches.
The P Zero Trofeo Track tyre model will not be offered as a factory option from carmakers - it will only be available through retailers of relevant products. There are plans to expand the range in the future with sizes for small and classic race cars.
