Xreal has introduced Project Aura smartglasses with built-in Gemini and the ability to display content from a smartphone or laptop
At the Google I/O 2025 conference, apart from the first Android XR smartglasses from Google, a similar gadget was presented by the Chinese company Xreal, which specialises in augmented and virtual reality devices.
Here's What We Know
Xreal announced Project Aura - smartglasses on the Android XR platform.
Visually, the gadget looks like ordinary sunglasses, but it has cameras built into the temples and bridge of the nose, microphones and a special Qualcomm chipset optimised for XR.
The glasses not only collect information about the environment and provide the user with brief talking points about what they are seeing, but can also display images from a smartphone or laptop.
The user will be able to adjust the lens transparency and viewing angle, while Gemini's inbuilt AI assistant will provide advanced features.
Xreal promises to reveal more about Project Aura at the Augmented World Expo conference on 10 June 2025.
The manufacturer hopes that developers will start building apps for Project Aura (and Android XR) now, before the consumer versions are released.
