Rumours: for the first time since 2019, Sony will not hold a game presentation in May, the reason may be the lack of new content

Usually, Sony's game presentations were held in May, but in 2025, it seems that the tradition may be broken. According to insider NateDrake, there is no indication that the company is preparing a presentation this month, as it has been every year since 2019.

Here's What We Know

Since 2019, May has become the month for PlayStation fans to expect new game announcements and stunning trailers at the PlayStation Showcase or State of Play. However, this may change in 2025. NateDrake stated that his sources have not heard of any preparations for Sony's May event.

If Sony really does abandon its tradition, it will be an unexpected, but not entirely shocking step. Death Stranding 2 will be released in a month, Marathon is experiencing difficulties due to scandals, and Ghost of Yotei has already received an official release date - and this announcement took place not during the presentation, but simply on a regular working day.

Another reason for the possible absence of the presentation may be the lack of new content to showcase. Although Sony has Marvel's Wolverine and Saros in its arsenal, if these projects are not yet ready to be shown, it may be difficult for the company to fill a large presentation with original announcements.

Traditionally, PlayStation Showcase focuses on Sony's own studios, while State of Play focuses on third-party developers and sometimes small announcements from PlayStation Studios. However, the absence of an internal presentation does not exclude the possibility of announcing new PS5 exclusives, for example, as part of the Summer Game Fest.
