Mozilla stops supporting Pocket and Fakespot - time to export your data
Mozilla has officially announced the closure of its popular Pocket service, which allowed users to save articles for later reading.
Here's What We Know
Starting from 8 July 2025, the Pocket app and its API will be discontinued. From that day on, users will not be able to download the app or sign up for a new Pocket Premium subscription. Existing subscriptions will be automatically cancelled, and users with an annual subscription will be offered a full refund.
Account holders have until 8 October 2025 to export their data, after which all information will be deleted. Along with Pocket, Mozilla is also discontinuing support for the Fakespot browser extension, which helped to assess the veracity of product reviews. Fakespot will stop working on 1 July 2025, and the Review Checker feature will disappear in Firefox on 10 June.
Pocket is one of the oldest apps in the "read later" category, acquired by Mozilla in 2017. The service was originally launched in 2007 as an extension of Read It Later and was renamed in 2012. Pocket allowed not only to save articles but also to read them in an ad-free format even after the pages were deleted from the Internet.
Mozilla claims that the closure of these services is due to the desire to focus resources on the development of the Firefox browser. Other alternatives to Pocket include Instapaper and Readwise Reader, which also provide functions for saving and organising reading content. Detailed instructions on how to export Pocket data are available on the Mozilla website.
