The Netflix drama Game of Thrones returns for its third season on 27 June, and this time, beware, those who are afraid of heights, because creator Hwang Dong-hyuk will be returning to this fear on a truly massive scale. It is expected that the final chord of this saga will impress the audience with its intensity and drama.

Here's What We Know

"In season one, we had a lot of games like Tug of War that really used heights and the fear that heights bring, but in the case of season two, we didn't have that element," he told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. "That's why in season three, I decided to introduce games that could really put fear into people through high heights.

Other than that detail, we don't know much about how exactly the heights will be used in season three. Hwang also talked about how the participants of the games will really reach the lowest limits of human nature to emphasise a deeper message.

"In the case of the third season, I wanted to introduce games that could really show the lowest aspects of human beings because the series itself is reaching its climax," he explained.

Hwang emphasised that the third season will be a true conclusion to the already beloved show. "The third season is really the finale," he told EW, adding that the finale will ask the "final question" about "how we should remain human even in the midst of this intense competition."

"The Squid Game" debuted on Netflix in September 2021 to critical and audience acclaim, becoming the streaming service's most popular series. The first season also won six Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe. The third season is scheduled for 27 June 2025.

The third season will continue the events of the second season, where Gi-hoon (Player 456) will find himself back in the games and still determined to destroy them once and for all - despite the horrific events of the previous season.
