Apple plans to release smart glasses by the end of 2026, Bloomberg reports. The new gadget will compete with Meta Ray-Ban and Android XR glasses from Google.

Here's What We Know

Apple Glasses will have cameras, microphones, and built-in artificial intelligence that will allow taking photos, recording videos, translating language, giving step-by-step navigation instructions, playing music, receiving calls, providing comments on what you see, and answering user questions. However, these glasses do not have augmented reality (AR) functionality.

The key role in the device's operation will be played by the Siri voice assistant, which Apple plans to significantly improve before the product launch. The company has already stepped up work on the glasses and intends to produce a large number of prototypes for testing before mass production by the end of 2025.

According to an Apple employee, their glasses are similar to Meta Ray-Ban, but better made. While Meta uses Meta Llama artificial intelligence and Google uses Gemini, Apple creates its own AI models.

It is known that Apple's long-term goal is lightweight augmented reality glasses, but it will take time to produce them: chips and batteries need to become smaller and cheaper. Therefore, the new glasses of 2026 are a step towards the future of AR, but without full-fledged augmented reality.
