Authoritative insider and journalist Tom Henderson shared his vision of the future of the Xbox brand and stated that in his opinion the next Microsoft console will be the last.

Here's What We Know

In a podcast on Insider Gaming, Henderson explained that Xbox's new strategy makes it clear that the company is no longer focusing on consoles and is focused on building a digital ecosystem. Henderson explains that according to the new advertising slogan, "any device can become an Xbox" thanks not only to cloud services and Xbox Game Pass, but also to the fact that many new products are released on competitors' consoles immediately or shortly after release, while on PC they are available from day one.

In addition, there's a high possibility that the next Xbox could be much closer to PC than to traditional game consoles. For example, Microsoft can place on its platform Steam and other third-party services that will allow you to run on the American console even games from Sony. Moreover, this will not even require the consent of the Japanese.

In light of these factors, Henderson considers it unlikely that in the future Microsoft will continue to develop and release new Xbox consoles, as their relevance in general will be zero.

However, almost all of the above applies to other consoles as well, which is why many analysts believe that companies will generally move away from physical gaming platforms and focus on creating digital content.
