Despite its best efforts, Sony has been extremely slow to tap into the mobile market. German developer Neon Koi was shut down before it had even released anything, and the declining PS Mobile division underwent a major reshuffle. However, Sony has a new, ambitious plan: MLB The Show, one of the best-known and best-selling PlayStation series in the US, is preparing for its mobile debut.

Here's What We Know

A new job posting spotted by players on Reddit hints that MLB The Show will be getting a mobile version. The job posting for a "Senior Product Manager" at San Diego Studio states that "candidates will collaborate with design, production, marketing, data and analytics, as well as many other disciplines to develop new product features and optimise existing ones to make MLB The Show Mobile an amazing game."

While MLB The Show 25 already has a Companion App that lets you manage your Diamond Dynasty roster when you're away from your PS5, this job posting sounds very specifically like developing a standalone spin-off game.

The responsibilities listed in the job posting include phrases such as "retention" and "monetisation strategies" - all things you'd expect to read about a modern mobile project. This makes perfect sense, as competitive franchises such as EA Sports FC, NBA 2K, and Madden NFL already have their own mobile versions.

In this case, we can expect that the gameplay will be simplified to adapt to mobile devices, with shortened games designed for short gaming sessions.

Given the popularity of MLB The Show, which sells well in the US every year, this decision could help Sony's mobile division.
