There are spoilers for The Last of Us season 2 finale in the news!

The second season of the post-apocalyptic drama The Last of Us ended with a loud, somewhat unexpected finale that left viewers in suspense and with many questions. The showrunner of the series, Craig Mazin, said that the team considered many options before deciding to end the second season on such a dramatic cliffhanger.

Here's What We Know

"We were open to a different ending. We talked about it a lot. We considered everything," Maisin admitted during the press conference. ". Maybe we should have just intertwined the stories. Maybe we should just switch back and forth. Maybe we should try this, maybe we should try that, and then in the end, I just remember saying, 'Isn't that part of the genetics of how this story functions? It's just part of the genetics.

The second season finale of The Last of Us ends with a cliffhanger, which, not surprisingly, differs from the events in The Last of Us Part 2. In the finale, Abby and Ellie have their first confrontation in Seattle, Abby shoots Ellie - and the scene ends there. In the game, Ellie gets up and the scene continues.

In the series, the scene cuts to Abby waking up at WLF's headquarters in Seattle, where we are shown the words "Day One". This indicates that The Last of Us season three will begin with a focus on Abby, showing viewers what she did during those three days while Ellie and Dinah hunted her down and killed her friends one by one.

Maisin admitted that it was a risk to end the season this way, and it's certainly due to the fact that the scene hints at Ellie's death at the hands of Abby (although those of us who played Part 2 know that's not the case).

Now we are waiting for the reveal of the season 3 release date.
