A terrible ordeal: The Last of Us showrunner talks about filming the most painful scene of season 2 involving Joel

Fans of The Last of Us who have already gone through the emotional rollercoaster of the second season will never forget that terrible scene in the second game that sets the tone for the entire game. The showrunner of the series, Craig Mazin, admitted that filming this tragic moment with Joel's death caused him both horror and excitement.

"I think the scene that I was most excited to create on screen and terrified to create was Joel's death," said Maisin at the press conference.

"If you've played The Last of Us Part 2, you know what happens to Joel, and you know it's absolutely horrific. However, in the series, Abby was introduced in the first few minutes of the first episode of the second season of The Last of Us as a person who wants to kill Joel, we already knew her motives when the fateful scene began. In the video game, it's a little creepier, given the fact that Abby doesn't explain to Joel why she's going to kill him.

In the TV adaptation of this scene, which takes place in the second episode of The Last of Us season two, Abby tells Joel that he killed 18 soldiers and one "unarmed doctor", asking if he remembers the latter. She explains that the doctor was her father, and she explicitly tells Joel that she is going to kill him.

This scene was certainly one of the most vivid and painful moments of the season, but the game was made much better by an intrigue that is not revealed to us until the first half of the game.
