Another useless technology or something worthwhile? Germans show Interceptor S drone interceptor with artificial intelligence
German startup TYTAN Technologies has unveiled the Interceptor S drone with artificial intelligence capable of destroying enemy FPV drones that threaten armoured vehicles.
Here's What We Know
The new product was presented at the AFCEA 2025 defence exhibition in Bonn. The Interceptor S is designed specifically to protect Boxer wheeled armoured vehicles and is already being tested by the Bundeswehr, according to Hartpunkt.
The Interceptor S weighs 3 kg, has a warhead weighing 1 kg, a body length of 50 cm, can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h and intercept targets at an altitude of up to 2 km at a distance of up to 5 km.
The drone is used as follows: the armoured vehicle's on-board system detects a threat, determines the optimal interception trajectory, and the commander decides to launch it. The Interceptor S then operates autonomously, either destroying the target with a direct strike or blowing up a nearby warhead.
The estimated price of one drone is "in the three-digit euro range," which is close to the cost of FPV drones themselves. This should make the Interceptor S economically viable.
The developers based the new product on the previous Interceptor B model, but emphasise its adaptability to the current needs of the frontline. At the same time, experts emphasise that the project has potential, but raises questions about scalability and the possibility of integration with other types of equipment other than Boxer.
