Elden Ring Nightreign has had a great start, but is getting mixed reviews - has FromSoftware's experiment succeeded?
The release of Elden Ring Nightreign - an experimental game from FromSoftware, the famous Japanese studio, author of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Armored Core and the original Elden Ring, which is the most titled game in the history of the industry.
The novelty is already available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, the public had the opportunity to make their own opinion about the game and, judging by the reviews, it turned out to be ambiguous.
Here's What We Know
In Steam, the game gathered 313,593 players at the same time, which is an excellent result for the working day. Such interest is absolutely understandable, since all FromSoftware games are always of the highest quality.
Nightreign's first reviews, on the other hand, turned out to be mixed. Only 67% of players are satisfied with the game, and this is the worst result among all FromSoftware's full releases on Steam. Below Elden Ring Nightreign was only one of the DLCs for Dark Souls 3 - Ashes of Ariandel. And it has a logical explanation, because the game is difficult to fit into the concept of usual souls-like projects, and as a co-op game it is not typical, because in Elden Ring Nightreign there is no voice chat, no crossplay, and the number of players is limited to three people, and there is no mode for two. But in support of FromSoftware, note that they immediately identified the game as experimental, so it breaks out of a lot of canon.
Flashback
Elden Ring: Nightreign is a game designed for one or three players. Its events unfold in an alternative version of The Lands Between, on a small part of it, and the locations will look a bit different than in the original Elden Ring.
Nightreign's concept combines genres such as souls-like, roguelike and partly Battle royal. Before a match begins, players choose one of eight unique characters and begin exploring locations in search of enemies and valuable equipment. Gameplay is divided into two cycles: during the day players fight weak enemies and get runes to strengthen their heroes, and at night they have to fight dangerous bosses.
The ultimate goal of each expedition is to survive three nights and defeat the final boss, which is chosen before the match starts, and some of them are "guests" from other FromSoftware games.
Each session lasts 30-40 minutes. Each character has unique abilities and a storyline, which will be revealed between matches in hub locations.
