HMD Global, a company known for smartphones under the Nokia brand, is preparing to launch its first Wear OS smartwatches - HMD Rubber 1 and Rubber 1S.

Here's What We Know

According to an HMD_MEME insider (@smashx_60), one of the models will have a camera, which will be the first such solution among Wear OS devices.

Rubber 1 will have a 1.85-inch OLED display, a 400 mAh battery, and support for both USB-C and Qi wireless charging. Other features include 5 ATM water resistance, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, NFC, and sensors for tracking heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and steps. The highlight will be the 2MP camera, which is likely to be placed above the screen - like the JrTrack 4 for kids.

The younger Rubber 1S model will have a more compact 1.05-inch display and a 290mAh battery. It will also support basic health and water resistance functions, but will not have NFC - only Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi.

Both watches will run on Wear OS and may be targeted at children - in this context, HMD's partnership with children's watchmaker Xplora Technologies in October 2024 is mentioned. Similarly to Galaxy Watch for Kids, the devices may support Family Link and children's apps.

Prices and launch date have not yet been announced.
