Sales of some Porsche Taycan units suspended in the UK due to battery problems
Porsche has asked UK dealers to stop selling some Taycan electric vehicles due to a possible battery problem.
Here's What We Know
According to the UK's Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the issue is a possible short circuit that could lead to a car catching fire.
The company noted that only a small number of first-generation models are affected. Other versions of the Taycan remain on sale. Porsche plans to release a software update that will be able to detect a potential malfunction and warn the driver. Its release is expected at the end of June.
In an official statement, Porsche said that dealers have been informed of the temporary suspension of sales of a limited number of the first Taycan until the update is released.
Since its launch, the Taycan has been on the service campaign list 12 times due to technical issues. Previously, the model had problems with high-voltage battery packs, brake hoses and suspension. Porsche has also recently addressed another issue - the risk of wheels falling off while driving on some other models.
As a reminder, Porsche is discontinuing production of the petrol Boxster and Cayman. The last examples will roll off the production line in October 2025. This applies to all markets, not just Europe, where the models were withdrawn from sale last year due to new cybersecurity requirements.
