Electronic Arts isn't giving up on Superheroes: even after Black Panther's cancellation, the company is developing three games based on Marvel comics
This week it became known that Electronic Arts cancelled the development of Black Panther action game and closed the studio Cliffhanger Games, which had been unsuccessfully working on this project for four years. But Marvel fans should not be upset, because EA still has something to please them.
Here's What We Know
In late 2022, EA and Marvel announced their intention to release "at least three" games based on the famous comics, and since then, Black Panther and Iron Man action games have been announced, with the third game still being kept secret.
After Black Panther's cancellation, the maths would suggest that there are two games left in development, but that's not the case.
IGN journalist Rebekah Valentine, who first reported Black Panther's cancellation, sought comment from EA and Marvel representatives to clarify how the projects' closure would affect their collaboration.
Marvel responded:
The long-term, multi-project relationship between Marvel Games and EA, a creative collaboration focused on original storytelling with beloved Marvel characters, remains robust. Development of our PC and console games, starting with Marvel's Iron Man, is led by Motive Studios.
But most importantly, in a conversation with a reporter, a Marvel representative confirmed that we're still talking about at least three games! Consequently, EA should announce two more projects and, finally, we would like to see the first gameplay footage of Iron Man, especially since EA Motive - the author of the excellent Dead Space remake - is developing this game.
