Romanian Dacia, part of the Renault Group, has unveiled a new version of its Bigster crossover. The modification with the designation Mild Hybrid G 140 received a 48-volt hybrid system and a dual-fuel system of powering the internal combustion engine - on petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Here's What We Know

Under the bonnet of the Dacia Bigster Mild Hybrid G 140 is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine adapted to run on dual fuels. The engine is assisted during acceleration by a small electric motor powered by a 0.84 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The crossover has a conventional 50-litre petrol tank and a gas tank hidden under the boot floor that holds a similar volume of LPG. If fully fuelled, the crossover can travel up to 1,450 kilometres from petrol station to petrol station. A switch on the front panel allows quick and smooth switching from one type of fuel to another.

The new version of the Bigster is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox. Dacia indicates an average fuel consumption of 5.8 litres (petrol) and 7.1 litres (LPG). Top speed is 180 km/h. Drive is exclusively on the front wheels. When running on LPG, the Bigster Mild Hybrid G 140 emits on average 10 per cent less CO2 than a comparable non-hybrid petrol engine.

Interestingly, the Bigster Mildhybrid G 140 is offered at the same price as the petrol Bigster Mildhybrid 140. The reduction in CO2 emissions is reflected in more favourable taxation for EU countries.

In Germany, Dacia is asking from €23,990 for the base version called "Essential". It comes with manually controlled air conditioning, a reversing camera, a 7-inch display for the driver and a Media Display multimedia system with a 10-inch touchscreen.

The better-equipped Bigster "Expression" with dual-zone automatic climate control and 40/20/40 split rear seat costs from €25,390. The top versions, the "Journey" (pictured above) and "Extreme", cost €27,290 and €27,490 respectively.
