Tomorrow (5 June) will see the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which analysts are predicting to be the most successful debut in console history.

Nintendo studio and third-party developers have prepared an impressive launch line-up of games for the new gadget and among them is a new 4X-strategy Sid Meier's Civilisation VII, which was released on other platforms in February 2025.

Here's What We Know

Firaxis has released a special trailer about the features of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Civilisation VII. The game will get full support for the platform's new features, including mouse mode control with Joy-Con 2 controllers.

On Switch 2, the game will offer:

  • improved graphics and performance;
  • expanded map sizes;
  • multiplayer mode with support for voice chat via GameChat.

The Switch 2 version will support cross-play and cross-progression between all platforms. Firaxis has tried to make Civilisation VII gameplay on the new platform as comfortable as possible, but warns that there are a number of technical limitations: smaller map sizes and a limit on the number of players in online mode.
