Kia is recalling 82,281 2025 model year K5 sedans in the US due to the lighting system not meeting local standards. The vehicles were accidentally installed with a software version for the Korean market.

Here's What We Know

When the turn signal is activated with the headlights or parking lights on, the corresponding parking light does not illuminate continuously, violating U.S. FMVSS No. 108.

Kia North America became aware of the problem on 13 May. At that time, information first surfaced about the possible application of the Korean-specification vehicle lighting logic to U.S. models. Further investigation confirmed the error.

Car owners will be notified of the recall next month. Some of them will be able to fix the problem with a wireless software update, while the rest will have the problem fixed at dealerships.
