Fighting nightmares: Silent Hill f authors reveal details of the combat system, where hand-to-hand weapons will become the foundation of the game
Since the first Silent Hill trailer, many people have been impressed by the design of the monsters. Created by the artist kera, they look absolutely disgusting, but fortunately, the main character Hinako will not spend the whole game running away. The latest trailer showed a hand-to-hand fight, where a rusty pipe and even a naginata were used.
Here's What We Know
In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, series producer Motoi Okamoto said that the combat system will have "more emphasis on hand-to-hand combat and be more action-oriented than Silent Hill 2". There will also be encounters that are "as challenging as the obstacles Hinako has to overcome in life". This promises a more dynamic and exciting gameplay, where each battle will require strategic thinking and quick decisions from the player.
Okamoto also discussed the art direction, namely the "combination of beauty and horror" in monsters. "There is an eerie beauty in the game's monster design - created by artist kera - that combines Japanese horror with the uniqueness of previous, terrifying Silent Hill creations."
As for the soundtrack, series veterans Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage (known for his work on Dynasty Warriors) are offering music that is "reminiscent of the past but completely in keeping with this new setting."
You can also expect puzzles that are "based on psychological agony and suffering" and are deeply connected to the story written by Ryukishi07. They also incorporate elements of Japanese culture such as scarecrows, hence the field of scarecrow-like teenagers that Hinako has to go through.
Silent Hill f comes out on 25 September for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC for $70. The Deluxe Edition costs $80, offering two days of early access and a Rabbit outfit.
Silent Hill f will also receive improvements for the PlayStation 5 Pro.
