Apple plans to limit support for some older Mac models in the upcoming macOS Tahoe (version 26). According to an insider in the X social network, the update will not support several Intel models that currently run on macOS Sequoia.

Here's What We Know

Officially, macOS 26 will be compatible with the following devices:

  • MacBook Air (M1 and later),
  • MacBook Pro (2019 and later),
  • iMac (2020 and later),
  • Mac mini (M1 and later),
  • Mac Studio (all models),
  • Mac Pro (2019 and later).

This list is consistent with previous leaks, but there's a chance that the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro with dual Thunderbolt 3 ports will also lose support. However, the source is not entirely sure about this information, so we should treat it with caution for now.

Apple is expected to officially unveil macOS Tahoe at the WWDC 2025 conference, which starts on Monday, June 9. WWDC 2025 will run from 9 to 13 June. It will be five days of new products, masterclasses, and discussions that will determine the future of the Apple ecosystem. You can follow it live on the official Apple YouTube channel.

With the update, users with newer Macs will get improved performance and new features, while owners of some older models will unfortunately have to stay on previous versions of the system.

The update once again focuses on Apple's transition to its own M-series chips, gradually abandoning support for older Intel models.
