On 7 June, the Ukrainian General Staff reported the shooting down of Russia's newest Su-35 multi-role fighter jet.

This event took place in the Kursk region in enemy territory, but there were no details about the incident. Now, however, there is information in the media that sheds light on the aerial combat.

Here's What We Know

According to the German edition of Bild, the Su-35 for the first time in history was shot down by the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

This was possible thanks to the involvement of the Saab 340 AEW&C long-range radar detection aircraft, which Sweden recently transferred to Ukraine. It detected the Su-35 at a distance of 200-300 kilometres and relayed the information to the F-16 pilot, who aimed an AIM-120 missile at it and successfully hit the target.

It is reported that the pilot of the SU-35 managed to eject.

This event showed that the Ukrainian Air Force is increasing its ability to destroy enemy aircraft.

The estimated cost of the SU-35 is $100 million.
