Apple announces tvOS 26 with new Liquid Glass design and iPhone karaoke support

Apple has announced the release of tvOS 26 this autumn, an updated operating system for Apple TV with a new visual design called Liquid Glass.

Liquid Glass is a transparent, multi-layered interface with rounded shapes, based on the same principles as the visionOS design.

tvOS 26 has updated Apple Music Sing and improved profile switching. The new design of the operating system uses real-time rendering, which reflects the surrounding colours on other interface elements.

Apple emphasises that the main objective of the update is to focus on content so that viewers can fully enjoy their favourite shows and films.

The TV app has new posters with the Liquid Glass effect. The home screen has also been updated, with icons that are more voluminous and shiny.

The Apple Music Sing app has been updated in tvOS 26: now you can use your iPhone as a portable karaoke microphone. Friends can also connect with their phones, add songs to the queue, and react to performances using emojis on the screen.

Apple TV now shows your profile selection right away when you switch it on. This helps you quickly navigate to your favourite shows and movies.

In addition, tvOS 26 adds new Aerial screensavers and allows you to select any AirPlay speaker as the permanent audio output for Apple TV, a feature previously only available for HomePod.
