Google has released a stable version of Android 16, which is only available on Pixel smartphones for now. The firmware provides extensive improvements to data protection, sound, notification system and interaction with third-party devices.

Here's What We Know

One of the main innovations of Android 16 - the new Material 3 Expressive interface design - is not yet out and, as the developer states, "will debut somewhat later".

Here are the main innovations of Android 16:

  • Live Updates - a real-time notification system similar to Live Activities in iOS. Allows you to track important events without opening apps, such as the status of a food delivery or taxi ride;
  • Ultra HDR for HEIC format - improved photo quality, preserving shadow and light detail and reducing file size;
  • updated Quick Settings panel - ability to resize Quick Settings tiles, e.g. expand Wi-Fi to display available networks;
  • enhanced options for hearing aid users - you can choose which microphone the audio comes through during calls;
  • audio transfer to multiple Bluetooth devices - now you can play audio on multiple gadgets at the same time.

Android 16 is already available on Google Pixel smartphones (from Pixel 6 to Pixel 9 Pro XL), while smartphones from Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo and a number of other brands have already received the beta version of the update.
