Daimler Truck has received a major order from the Bundeswehr for Mercedes Arocs trucks

Daimler Truck has won the German Army's tender to supply several hundred Mercedes-Benz Arocs trucks. The contract was awarded to BwFuhrparkService GmbH, a supplier of transport for the Bundeswehr.

Here's What We Know

The trucks are to strengthen Germany's military transport capabilities for the defence of the country and allies. Deliveries will be completed by the end of May 2026.

The ordered vehicles are Arocs 6x6 with four-wheel drive and a payload of up to 10 tonnes. These are so-called hümS vehicles - commercial trucks with limited military equipment, including camouflage colouring. These vehicles supplement the military fleet and can later be sold to the civilian market.

The three-axle truck is designed for off-road use with high ground clearance and rugged chassis. It can overcome water obstacles up to 0.9 metres deep.

Diesel engine OM 470 with an output of 455 hp and torque of 2200 Nm works with an automated gearbox PowerShift 3. All machines meet Euro VI standard.

The trucks are equipped with Sonntag Fahrzeugbau's 15-foot interchangeable platform, which remains stable even with severe frame distortions on rough terrain. The platform can be quickly changed or reloaded onto another vehicle.

The ordered Arocs 6x6 trucks will be produced at a German-French facility. The axles are supplied from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kassel, and the transmissions from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau. The OM 470 engine comes from the Mannheim plant and is installed in the vehicle frame at Mercedes-Benz Trucks' largest truck manufacturing plant. The connection of the driver's cab to the chassis will also take place at the Wörth plant.

In Mollsheim, France, the manufacturer then equips the vehicles with special military equipment. There, a chemical-resistant base coating that reduces visibility in night vision devices and thermal imaging cameras is also applied.
