CarPlay in iOS 26 will get AirPlay's "video in the car" feature
Starting with iOS 26, Apple will allow apps to display video through the CarPlay screen while parking.
Here's What We Know
The new functionality is called "video in the car" and is mentioned on Apple's CarPlay developer site:
"AirPlay video in the car lets people watch their favourite iPhone videos directly on the CarPlay display when they're not driving. Integrate CarPlay support with AirPlay video to enable this feature in your car."
So, for the first time since CarPlay was introduced, there will be official support for video playback while parking. This will happen in the autumn.
However, don't expect the support to be universal, as each carmaker will control whether or not to allow the AirPlay video feature.
As a reminder, along with iOS 26, a new version of CarPlay was announced at the recent WWDC 2025 conference with a redesigned design and widgets.
