In late May, authoritative insider and journalist of Windows Central portal Jez Corden reported that Microsoft has frozen the development of its own portable console and focused on adapting Windows 11 for similar gadgets of other brands.

Now there is even more relevant information about the plans of the American giant.

Here's What We Know

Editor of The Verge portal Tom Warren reported that Microsoft has cancelled the development of its portable console altogether.

Instead, it will focus on improving its digital ecosystem and creating a convenient gaming platform that can be used on almost any device. Its basis will be Windows 11 with some elements of the Xbox interface.

Microsoft's first experience in this segment was the cooperation with Asus - together the companies will release portable consoles ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, which were presented at the presentation Xbox Games Showcase 2025.

These gadgets can run natively or in the cloud almost any PC game and have been given advanced integration with Steam, Epic Games Store, GoG, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net and, most importantly, Xbox Game Pass, as well as an inbuilt AI assistant called Copilot for Gaming.

That said, Microsoft is still working on the next generation of home consoles.
