Nissan has officially unveiled the new (third) generation Leaf. The previous two were hatchbacks, but now the electric car gravitates towards crossovers with a body length of 4.35 metres and a wheelbase of 2.69 metres. And it's based on the CMF-EV platform, the same one used in the Nissan Ariya, Renault Megane E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech.

Here's What We Know

The new Leaf is designed at Nissan Global Design Studio in Atsugi, Japan. Its flowing outline improves aerodynamics (Cd value of 0.25), optimises airflow and contributes to improved driving range. The hidden door handles, flat underbody and drop roof line also contribute to aerodynamics. The sharply defined headlights and taillights provide a recognisable and high-tech look.

Seven body colours are available, including the bright turquoise 'Luminous Teal' colour seen in the press release photos. Wheels: 18-inch alloy wheels in the base and mid-range versions and 19-inch wheels with 235/45 R19 tyres in the top-of-the-range version. The design of the 18-inch discs includes the Japanese "Ni-San" (two and three) pattern, which can also be found on the tailgate and in the taillights.

A power-operated boot door gives access to a 437-litre compartment (VDA compliant). The interior is available in two colour options (black or white with purple accents).

Google services including Maps, Assistant and Play Store are integrated into the new Leaf from the factory. These run directly on the car's 14.3-inch displays. Software updates will "arrive" over the air. Navigation, climate control and multimedia can be controlled by voice. The NissanConnect Services app provides remote access to charging, pre-conditioning and route planning.

The new Nissan Leaf will be available in Europe with two battery models: a 52 kWh capacity for a range of up to 436 kilometres on the WLTP cycle and a 75 kWh capacity for a range of up to 604 kilometres.

At fast charging stations with a capacity of up to 150 kW, the Leaf can be charged in around 30 minutes. Intelligent temperature management ensures that the battery is charged quickly and evenly regardless of the weather. In combination with route data from Google Maps, the battery is automatically preheated or cooled as it approaches a fast charging station.

The Leaf can also supply electricity to external consumers thanks to the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function. Devices such as kettles, lamps or grills are plugged into an outlet with up to 3.6 kW of power. Support for V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) is also planned - meaning the car will potentially be able to return electricity to the grid during peak times.

The new Leaf for Europe will be produced at Nissan's UK plant in Sunderland. Orders will start being taken in autumn this year. The first deliveries will start in spring 2026.

Nissan has not yet announced prices, but it is expected that the base version will cost noticeably cheaper than the Ariya - less than 40 thousand euros.
