Sony and Bungie Studios have announced news that will come as no surprise to those who have been closely following the development and scandals surrounding Marathon.

Here's What We Know

The release of Extraction-shooter is postponed from 23 September 2025 for an indefinite period.

The authors are trying to smooth the edges and explain that they took into account the criticism of the alpha-testing participants and will eliminate all the shortcomings of the game for additional time to make the matches exciting, tense and dynamic.

However, given the numerous problems of Bungie, neither developers nor gamers have much reason for optimism, and something suggests that if Marathon is released - it may be waiting for the fate of Sony's main game failure - Concord. Recall that this network shooter, like Marathon, was developed for 8 years, and $200 to $400 million was spent on its development, and its release turned out to be so "successful" that Concord servers were closed in a fortnight, because nobody played this game.

As of now, Marathon's release is stated to be until 31 March 2026 (the end of the current fiscal year).
