Although Sony hasn't officially announced the next generation of PlayStation yet, rumours about the PS6 and its portable version continue to swirl. And now there are new rumours: the SoC of the portable PS6 will allegedly be made on a 3nm process and will have a power of 15W.

Here's What We Know

A Kepler insider noted that "the next line of APUs for OEM portable devices (if there is one at all) will come along with their next-to-next line in 2029. The only AMD portable device with AI upscaling in the near future will be the PlayStation portable". This suggests that Sony may be betting on technologies that will make it stand out in the market. It seems that the portable console will have 16 GB of RAM, similar to the PS5, but with "much higher" performance and computing units (CUs) thanks to the RDNA 5 architecture.

Interestingly, Kepler suggests that the newly revealed low power mode for the PS5 will simulate the performance of a portable console. Since it only has a third of the memory bandwidth of a console, "it's pretty obvious that a mode that cuts bandwidth in half is meant to simulate a portable device." This could be a tool for developers to optimise games for a future handheld device.

Other likely specifications include 4MB of L2 cache and 16MB of MALL (which the PS5 and PS5 Pro lack). However, it seems that LPDDR6 is "still too far away".
