YouTube has broken a new milestone. According to CEO Neal Mohan, the average daily views of YouTube Shorts videos has already averaged 200 billion. He revealed this during a speech at the "2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity".

Here's What We Know

Is it a lot or a little? Compared to last year, the growth in daily viewership was about 186%. And back in March 2024, YouTube reported that Shorts averaged 70 billion views per day. Recall that short film clips appeared on the popular platform in 2021.

Mohan also said that viewers watch more than 1 billion hours of content from YouTube on their TVs every day. The number is staggering, but not surprising given that YouTube topped Nielsen's The Gauge report for the fourth consecutive month in May. This means that the platform became the most viewed of all streaming services or channels. YouTube accounted for 12.5 per cent of all[ TV viewing that month, the largest share of total viewership among all streaming services or channels reported by The Gauge.

Neil Mohanan also announced that Veo 3 will be coming to YouTube this summer. Veo is Google's DeepMind video generation model. It allows users to create backgrounds and video clips for Shorts generated by artificial intelligence. The Dream Screen YouTube Shorts option already worked on Veo, but the introduction of Veo 3 will improve the quality and give users the ability to add sound.
