Garmin has introduced the Index Sleep Monitor, a new device for detailed sleep tracking that can be worn on the upper arm. The price of the novelty is $170.

Here's What We Know

Unlike classic smartwatches, the Index Sleep Monitor is designed specifically for comfort during sleep. The device has a lightweight nylon strap with a velcro fastener that can be washed after removing the tracking module. Importantly, it does not have a display or buttons, which allows you not to be distracted by unnecessary functions at night.

The gadget tracks all the main phases of sleep - REM, light and deep sleep - and also monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, skin temperature, respiration, and body movements. Every morning, the user receives a personalised sleep score that takes into account the duration, stress level, and proportions of different phases.

The device syncs with the Garmin Connect app on Android and iOS, where you can view sleep dynamics, compare scores from different days, and get a comprehensive analysis of your body's recovery, including an assessment of your Body Battery and stress levels.

Separately, Index Sleep Monitor has functions for women's health: it helps to more accurately predict menstrual cycles and ovulation based on skin temperature. Cycle and pregnancy data can also be entered in the Garmin Connect app.

For easy waking up, the gadget is equipped with a smart vibrating alarm that activates during light sleep. The battery lasts for seven nights without recharging with continuous tracking.

The device is already available on the official Garmin website and from brand partners.
