Sad news for Splitgate fans and the developers at 1047 Games. The studio behind the recently released Splitgate 2 has announced layoffs. The company's official LinkedIn account described it as a "small group" of "valuable" team members. This is a worrying signal after the game's controversial launch, which was accompanied by criticism from the community.

Here's What We Know

"We are still improving the gameplay of Splitgate 2 in response to community feedback, and we are reallocating resources to create the best game for our players. We're sad to see our teammates leave, and we're actively working to help them find new opportunities," the statement said.

The studio's co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian will also not receive a salary as "we are focused on the next phase of the project". Splitgate 2 was launched on 6 June at Summer Game Fest alongside Splitgate: Battle Royale, a "big" surprise that the studio actively advertised.

However, the problems for the free-to-play competitive shooter started even earlier. When its open beta was launched, fans criticised changes in the use of portals, the addition of factions and abilities, as well as absurd monetisation, which included $80 kits. The latter has been somewhat reduced, but the game's Steam rating remains "Mixed", with only 61% of 16,410 reviews recommending it.

Despite the recent layoffs, 1047 Games "continues to work hard to provide more things we know you will love. We are committed to making this game for the long haul." New weapons, modes, maps, events, and skins have been confirmed for the future.

Splitgate 2 is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.
