Details of the Cronos combat system: The New Dawn: merging enemies, lack of ammo, and unique strategies
Bloober Team (authors of Observer and The Medium) has presented a new developer diary revealing the combat system of their upcoming game Cronos: The New Dawn. The game is set in a grim post-apocalyptic future where most of humanity has been destroyed and terrifying enemies known as Orphans roam the world. Players will take on the role of the Traveller, who must transfer the essences of people from the past, but conflict with the Orphans is inevitable.
Here's What We Know
You will have to face the terrifying ability of the Orphans to "Merge" with corpses to become stronger. This applies even to dead Orphans, which creates a constant threat, and the chronic lack of ammunition only complicates the situation. Therefore, the developers encourage players to carefully plan their kills and even interrupt the process of merging enemies whenever possible.
Luring Orphans to already dead bodies to open them up for damage can be an interesting tactic, although there is always a risk that you won't be able to stop the fusion process. This adds an element of risk and reward, forcing players to constantly think one step ahead.
The Traveller has several weapons in his arsenal to help him survive in this dangerous world. From the fast-firing Javelin to the powerful but melee Hammer, each tool will have its own purpose. The world of Cronos is inhabited by various types of Orphans, including the particularly dangerous Doppelgangers. Among them are Runners, who prefer melee combat, and Bruisers, who can withstand and deal heavy damage. You will also have to fight enemies that attack from a distance.
"Special" enemies will also appear in some locations, and the Bloober Team promises to tell you about them in future updates.
Cronos: The New Dawn is out this autumn for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
