Sad news for the gaming industry and for Build A Rocket Boy, the developer of the long-suffering MindsEye. The company has officially confirmed a report by IGN that it is embarking on a significant downsizing process. In a statement provided to IGN, the studio said that it has made "the painful decision to inform our hardworking team of some internal changes at Build A Rocket Boy. This is a direct consequence of the problematic launch of their ambitious project.

Here's What We Know

The statement continues: "While we are working to reassign roles for as many of those affected by these changes as possible, we are unfortunately embarking on a formal consultation process that may result in redundancies. This decision has not been taken lightly and we are committed to conducting this process with transparency, fairness and respect for all employees."

These layoffs are a direct result of the critical reception of MindsEye, which has faced numerous technical issues and negative player feedback. The studio, which is headed by former Rockstar Games producer Leslie Benzies, appears to be in a serious crisis as it tries to regroup after a poor start.

The extent of the cuts is not yet known, but the phrase "significant layoffs" and "formal consultation process" suggest that a large number of employees are being affected. This raises serious concerns about the future of Build A Rocket Boy and their next projects, as there have been recent rumours of a game being developed under the licence of the popular series, so the company will still have one chance.
