Dying Light gets a free "Retouched" update: even better graphics and updated sound for the ten-year-old zombie hit
Who would have thought that a game that is more than ten years old and has a successful sequel would still receive major updates? However, Techland, the Polish developer of the cult zombie action game Dying Light, surprises us again! This week, the free update "Retouched" will be released, which will significantly improve the game in some aspects, giving fans a fresh look at their favourite apocalyptic world.
Here's What We Know
Techland immediately emphasises that this is not a full-fledged remaster of the original. This is an update that aims to "squeeze even more out of the Dying Light you already love". The developers have focused on pointed but meaningful improvements to make the game even more appealing.
You can dive into all the details in the full Techland blog post, but essentially, Dying Light Retouched began when the team "began to increase the quality of the environment textures and scale them to create a crisper, better look in the game. For example, you can see significant differences in the quality of wooden planks and metal sheets in the comparison images.
The patch also brings improved lighting, physically correct material rendering (PBR), and 8K ultra shadows that give surfaces much more depth and realism. This means that the world of Harran will look even more detailed and atmospheric than ever.
The game's original composer, Paweł Blaszczak, was also invited to update the soundtrack. "We've added brand new tracks and atmospheric sounds throughout the game, deepening the mood and increasing the tension of the exploration. And we've seriously improved the audio feedback for blows in combat. Every blow, every crunch, every zombie kill will sound more satisfying, more impressive," the developers share.
Techland notes that the improvements you'll see in the game will vary depending on the platform. This free patch will be released this week, on 26 June, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
