Insider: iPhone 17 will get a larger display and a 24MP front camera
According to new rumours from China, Apple is planning to increase the display size of the base iPhone 17 model. A well-known insider at Digital Chat Station on Weibo claims that the new product will have a 6.3-inch screen, while the iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch display.
Here's What We Know
This information coincides with the forecasts of analyst Ross Young from Counterpoint Research, who also previously reported similar changes in the lineup.
The next generation of Apple smartphones is expected to look like this:
- iPhone 17 - 6.3 in.
- iPhone 17 Air - 6.6 inches
- iPhone 17 Pro - 6.3 inches
- iPhone 17 Pro Max - 6.9 inches
Despite the larger display, the design of the basic iPhone 17, according to insiders, will remain unchanged. The smartphone will be powered by the same A18 processor as its predecessor and will have 8 GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone 16.
Among the expected improvements are support for a screen refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which should provide a smoother interface, and an updated 24MP front camera (compared to 12MP in the iPhone 16). If the rumours are true, this will be one of the most notable updates to the base model in recent years.
Apple traditionally presents new iPhones in September, so official details should be expected then.
