Honor will officially unveil the Magic V5 already on 2 July, and now it has revealed the key feature of the device - its battery. The novelty is indeed, as reported by insiders, equipped with a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 6100 mAh, which makes it a record among all foldable smartphones.

Here's What We Know

The Magic V5 uses a "Qinghai Lake Blade" type battery with 25 per cent silicon in the anode. According to Honor, this design increases energy density and allows for longer battery life without increasing the thickness of the device. For comparison, last year's Magic V3 had a 5,150 mAh battery, the Vivo X Fold 5 had a 6,000 mAh battery, and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 had just 4,400 mAh.

Despite the increased battery, Honor Magic V5 will remain compact: the thickness in the folded state is 8.8 mm, and in the unfolded - 4.1 mm, weight - about 217-224 g. The smartphone will run on the chipset Snapdragon 8 Leading Version, support fast charging at 66 watts and possibly wireless at 50 watts.

According to leaks, the novelty from Honor will get an 8″ main LTPO OLED display with 2K+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The external one is 6.45″, also OLED and 120Hz. The camera is triple: 50 MP main camera, periscope with 3× zoom and a wide-angle lens. There's IP68/IP69 protection against water and dust.

Autonomy has always been an issue with foldable models due to limited internal space. The use of silicon-carbon batteries allows for increased capacity without sacrificing design and weight - this could impact the market for foldable gadgets.
