Amazon has lost the right to sell Nintendo Switch 2 - due to a dispute with Nintendo over 'grey' sellers
Nintendo has decided to remove the Switch 2 from Amazon's US division after a conflict - the company accuses the retailer of third-party sellers importing consoles from Southeast Asia and selling them cheaper than the official price.
What happened
Nintendo has revoked the right to sell its products, including Switch 2, on Amazon.com in the US after a dispute over unauthorised retailers. The company revealed that independent sellers were buying games and consoles en masse in Southeast Asia and then selling them in the US at prices below Nintendo's recommended price.
Amazon officially denies the allegations, calling them "inaccurate," but has not disclosed details of the situation. Nintendo has not yet commented publicly.
What did Amazon lose?
The absence of the Switch 2 - the best-selling console of June and the gaming industry's top new product to start the summer - means missing out on a major demand for hardware and accessories.
How users have reacted
The Reddit community notes that the console's absence on Amazon US is a continuation of the depopulation of Nintendo products on the platform over the past few generations. That said, the Switch 2 is still available on Amazon Canada and other regional sites by invitation.
