South Korean manufacturer Hankook Tire has expanded its iON product line for electric vehicles with a new iON HT tyre model. It is designed specifically for large vehicles - SUVs and Light-Duty Trucks. In the US, this category includes vehicles with a GVWR of up to 8,500 lbs (about 3,860 kg).

Here's What We Know

The "HT" designation stands for "Highway-Terrain". With its low rolling resistance, the new tyre is optimised for minimal energy consumption on the motorway, providing "exceptional driving comfort" and increased durability due to its strength and stability.

Features of iON HT tyres:

  • Roll Lite compound and Opti Cure technology are designed to reduce internal friction and optimise cure temperature, helping to reduce rolling resistance and improve vehicle performance.
  • ProDurable compound and Opti Tread technology increase durability by evenly distributing pressure on the road. The tread life is claimed to be up to 80,000 miles (approximately 128,750 km), one of the highest among electric vehicle tyres.
  • The relief sipes and widening shoulder grooves provide reliable grip and water drainage for improved all-season traction, especially in wet conditions.
  • Aggressive shoulder block design and iON Clad construction protect against external influences.

The iON HT joins Hankook's iON range of all-season, summer and winter tyres for electric vehicles. The iON HT will be available in August in five initial sizes, from 18 to 22 inches, with UTQG 900/A/A/A ratings and T or H speed ratings.
