While analysts predict a slowdown in the US car market due to tariffs/duties and price increases, Ford reported growth: in the first half of the year, the brand's sales in the US grew by 6.6% compared to the same period in 2024. However, the picture is different in the electric car segment - demand is noticeably declining.

Here's What We Know

From January to June, Ford sold 21,785 Mustang Mach-Es - 2 per cent fewer than a year ago. In the second quarter, the drop was much more serious: only 10,178 cars against 12,645 in the same period of 2024 (-19.5%).

Against this backdrop, the petrol Mustang has revived. Despite a 14.2 per cent drop in sales over six months (23,551 units), the model added 3.2 per cent in the second quarter, selling 14,174 cars - more than the Mach-E. Thus, the petrol has once again overtaken the electric in quarterly figures, although it is behind in the half-year results.

The electric van E-Transit is the worst performer: only 4,174 vehicles in the half-year (-33.8%) and only 418 units in the second quarter (-87.7%!). The Americans' interest in the electric pickup truck F-150 Lightning is also falling: 13,029 units were sold over six months (-16.7%), of which 5,842 units were sold in the second quarter (-26.1%).

Bottom line: sales of Ford electric vehicles in the US fell 31.4 per cent in the second quarter and 11.8 per cent in the six-month period. But not all that bad - hybrids, on the contrary, are in the plus: +23.5% in the second quarter (66,448 units) and +27.4% at the end of the half-year (117,521 units). It is on them that Ford is now betting in anticipation of market stabilisation.
