The iOS 26 Messages app will have an anti-spam solution in the Messages app

In iOS 26, the Messages app will have an automatic filtering system: incoming messages from unknown senders will be sorted into separate folders ("Unknown" and "Spam"), without notifications. The app will become more structured, like an email client.

What's changing

  • Four tabs instead of one: "Messages", "Unknown senders", "Spam" and "Recently deleted".
  • Working without third-party apps: the filter is built directly into the system - you can activate it in the settings without installing any third-party utilities. Apple won't delete messages, they're just "hidden" until you want to view them.
  • Customisable filtering: the user chooses whether to filter only unknown people or to flag and disallow spam from known senders. A filter icon informs you when there are new hidden messages.

This feature is part of Apple's global effort to combat spam. The integration of the filter into Messages is the result of the company's long-standing efforts to improve UX and protect users from "digital noise."
