Romero Games is still alive: several publishers are showing interest in new projects by the author of Doom and Quake
The situation around Romero Games continues to be actively discussed.
The studio itself is not unique or innovative, few people will remember even one of its games, but the personality of its founder and head - John Romero, who is a legend of the game industry and one of the authors of such cult franchises as Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein - automatically attracts a lot of attention to it.
Here's What We Know
Recall that after Microsoft announced a massive wave of layoffs, it became known that the studio Romero Games lost funding for an unnamed shooter and was forced not only to cancel it, but also to fire the entire team. One of the developers even stated that the company is actually ceasing to exist, but Romero Games hastened to deny these rumours.
In an open letter, the studio reports that they did have to cancel the game and employees lost their jobs, but "many of the reports contained inaccuracies." It's stated that not only is the studio not closed, but it's attracting interest from several publishers and its personnel policies "will be reviewed."
Of course, Romero Games does not say who is interested in its projects, but earlier Japanese company Pocketpair, which became world famous thanks to the successful game Palworld, showed interest in them.
Romero Games was founded in 2015 and has just five projects in its portfolio, including the dystopian Sigil and Sigil 2, set in the vein of classic Doom, and crime strategy game Empire of Sin.
