HBO Max launches a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory: "Stewart Couldn't Save the Universe" - a combo of comics, multiverses and fakes
HBO Max has officially ordered a new series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a spin-off of the cult film The Big Bang Theory. Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers are the legendary Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady, who are already promising viewers "something radically new and crazy".
In the story, comic book store owner and loser Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) accidentally breaks a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, which triggers a multiverse apocalypse. Together with his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist Burton (Brian Posehn) and the ever-toxic Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), he must save reality. But, as the title suggests, the rescue mission goes... a little off track. The new show will feature alternative versions of familiar characters from the original series, from Sheldon to Penny.
What do the creators say?
Chuck Lorre says he wanted to do something that the characters of Theory themselves would discuss in Comic-Con queues: "It's radical, it's wild, and it's exactly what they would love and hate at the same time." Zach Penn added a story about a "visionary quest in the Amazon jungle", and Bill Prady admitted that the writing process "was so much fun that the audience will feel it".
The management of HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television are also optimistic: the show promises to keep the spirit of the original, but with a completely new sci-fi focus.
When to expect it?
The premiere date has not yet been announced, but the series has already received a full season order.
